Toxocariasis and Co-infection With COVID-19: A Cross-sectional Study

Background: Toxocara infection is one of the most neglected tropical diseases that has remained undiagnosed in developing countries. The disease leads to many signs and symptoms such as fever, coughing or wheezing, belly pain, hepatomegaly, loss appetite, rash, lymphadenopathy, red painful eyes, strabismus, blurred cloudy vision, like. Objective: present study aimed at investigating seroprevalence other demographic parameters toxocariasis among hospitalized patients diagnosed with coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) Karaj district, Alborz province, Iran. Materials Methods: This was undertaken between March September 2021. Ninety-two sera samples obtained from COVID-19 56 seemingly healthy individuals were tested for anti-Toxocara immunoglobulin G via an immunological assay (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, ELISA). characteristics participants collected through a questionnaire. Results: findings indicated during period, case group significantly higher than control (15.2% vs. 3.6%). Among 92 seropositive patients, 35.7% (5/14) males 64.3% (9/14) females. No deaths observed Toxocara-positive COVID-19. Conclusion: Toxocariasis worldwide zoonotic parasitic revealed importance spp. screening simple empirical treatment can be life-saving positive cases.
